Pen and Ink Cross Hatching Technique

This is an old technique of pen and ink drawing which uses the hatching and cross-hatching to bring out shades and beautiful texture in the drawing. Pen and ink crosshatching is great technique to learn and to add in your arsenal of drawing techniques.

To define what is hatching, it is a drawing technique that uses a series of parallel lines drawn close together, in the same direction. Crosshatching is similar to hatching only that you draw multiple layers of hatch lines at different angles that overlap one another.

The artist goes through several layers of hatching and cross-hatching. In Layer 5, he uses a scribble layer where he moves his pen in a squiggly manner.
